





Professional Background:
Mike Holt has always had a passion for teaching and coaching. His journey in personal training began as a corporate trainer for the Horizon Group. He was a 20 year old college student when he was tasked with preparing employees for the Corporate Cup, leading them to victory. With 25 years of experience as a high school science teacher at Muskegon Catholic Central and Western Michigan Christian, Mike has coached football, baseball, and basketball at various youth and high school levels. Notably, he was part of the coaching staff for the 2015 State Championship MCC baseball team.
Mike has participated in numerous obstacle course races, including Spartan Races, Tough Mudders, Savage Races, and Bone Frog events, consistently finishing in the top 10% of his age group. After discovering his love for CrossFit, Mike earned his CrossFit Level 1 Certification and has been coaching CrossFit for the past six years.
Family and Personal Life:
Mike is married to Cathi, and they have two sons, Nicholas (27) and Jacob (26), both of whom are active in CrossFit and certified coaches. The Holt family often trains together and participates in local fitness events. Family vacations always include at least one adventure race or fitness challenge, highlighting their commitment to an active lifestyle.
Business and Vision:
Mike founded the 3rd Monkey Endurance Race to create a community-focused endurance event, inspired by the popularity of his Saturday CrossFit classes. His vision is to make fitness accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages and abilities. Unique programs at 3MKY include OCR training for upcoming Spartan races. The gym fosters a strong community spirit through regular member socials, in-house competitions, and local events like Nightmare on WOD Street and Festivus (inaugural comp in October 2024), as well as various member fitness challenges.

Mike’s fitness philosophy centers on making fitness functional, fun, and accessible for everyone. He believes in providing a positive and challenging environment that promotes health, fitness, well-being, and community. His commitment to elite coaching ensures that fitness goals are met through constantly expanding knowledge and expertise. The motto “Let it Rain” reflects the attitude Mike cultivates at 3MKY as he implores its athletes to embrace the struggle and rise above it in class and in life.

Community Involvement Goals:
Mike is dedicated to giving back to the community. His 2024-25 goal is to organize an annual charity WOD to support local causes brought forward by members of 3MKY, as well as, those in the neighboring community. Additionally, community WODs are held to promote fitness, offering divisions for all shapes, sizes, experience, and fitness levels.
